If anyone has any idea as to anything else I have missed checking, please let me know and I’ll follow up. I’ve put too much time into this thing, but I would really like to find out Root Cause. Replacing the magneto on speculation would cost about $80 (local price) and a brand new higher horsepower (Harbor Freight / Princes Auto) engine can be had for ~ $150.
Pulsa jet carb manual#
B&S manual indicates adequate compression if there is a sharp rebound while turning the flywheel counterclockwise.Although compression is not really a good indicator, I measured about 60 PSI.Cylinder walls smooth but cross hatches still visible.Valve seat and valve faces in very good condition. This number is the first digit after the engine size (displacement). The second column represents the design series. The numbers in the first column represent the engine size, in cubic inches. 9-Plain Bearing, Auxiliary DriveParallel to Crankshaft. Removed head, cleaned valves and removed carb, intake set to 0.006”. 9-Vertical Shaft, Pulsa-Jet Carburetor, Pneumatic or Mechanical Governor. After that, I coaxed it into starting and running for a few minutes (after I put some gas in the intake as well, but not so much that it was only running off that for the few minutes). Cleaned it, and put in fresh gas up there too. Carb appears to draw fuel as small upper gas tank chamber had fuel in it when carb removed. Took off the pulsa jet carb and checked it out.Removed carb, cleaned all orifices and installed new diaphragm & spring kit, set jet screw 1 ½ turns out.

Pulsa jet carb generator#
Anyways since I shot this the generator is running strong. Magneto to flywheel gap 0.012” (spec 0.010 – 0.014”) Sorry about this one going so fast but just like anyone else,my life is dictated by kids.Spark from magneto to ground is visible.I’m using and electric drill to start it as I nearly wore out my arm with the pull start. Models (horizontal crankshaft and 2-piece flo-jet carburetor).

Once warmed up, most of the time it will not start. This engine will always Start when it’s Cold and continue to run until shut off. It can be started and run on starter fluid, but doesnt seem to pump gas into carburetor. Ive changed diaphragm, and carb-to-fuel tank gasket. Please share any insight you have in all of this and thank you in advance.Looking for ideas as to what I may have missed trouble shooting. Im having trouble starting an older aerator with a B&S 3.5hp horizontal shaft engine with a Pulsa Jet carb. I can't imagine and aluminum bushing being superior to the O I Bronze bushing. Now I am thinking of repairing the crack with J B Weld, boring the journal and re-bushing with an oil impregnated bronze bushing, rather then the aluminum bushing, which B & S offers. Well I ended up cracking the case and have decided there is no bushing.

So I decided I would just press out the bad bushing and replace it.

at Briggs & Stratton she pretty much confirmed it. After looking at the schematic and parts lists, I was under the impression that there was a bushing in that bore (at least the parts list shows one) and when I asked the tech rep. I'd be kinda lost without your help.Ī side note/different issue on another Pony tiller (same model same everything) I have an engine that seized at the crank shaft bore at the flywheel end. Thank you cheese and XSleeper for your input. I actually have already removed the carb, have ordered and received the rebuild kit, and plan to clean and replace the diaphragm this weekend.
